Most people use these words interchangeably. They are not the same. Knowing the difference is the foundation of everything — engineering, journalism, trading, conversation, even love.
Without context, data is just noise. Add meaning — it becomes a signal.
Raw, unprocessed symbols. Numbers, letters, bytes, sensor readings, log lines. Has no inherent meaning. Examples: 42, "x7g!", 0110, 37.2
Question it answers: "What is recorded?"
Data placed into context that reduces uncertainty for the receiver. Answers a question, enables a decision. Has units, time, source, meaning.
Question it answers: "What does it mean for me right now?"
Information is only the second rung. The classic Data → Information → Knowledge → Wisdom pyramid:
Raw symbols. Numbers, letters, bytes. Means nothing alone.
Data + context. Answers "what / who / where / when / how much". Reduces uncertainty.
Information + experience. You know how to use it. "If LOVE drops 20%, here's what I do."
Knowledge + judgment + time. You know when NOT to act. Conscience guides you.

Is this data or information?
This page exists because someone — a teacher at a school of electrical engineering and computer science — drew a line between "data" and "information" on a blackboard and made sure we understood it. Without that one lesson, none of LOVE Coin works. Thank you.
