    Why this exists

    In 2024, 97% of all crypto losses were human-layer failures — not chain hacks. Seed phrases in Notes. Screenshots in iCloud. SMS 2FA hijacked via SIM-swap. Phishing links clicked at 2am.

    The chain is solid. The wallet is solid. The weakest link is almost always the human in front of the screen. This guide makes you a harder target — in 20 minutes.

    Pillar 1

    Seed phrase & private keys

    Your seed phrase is the key to the door. Treat it like cash, not like a password.

    DO
    • ✓Write on paper. Store in 2 physical locations.
    • ✓Steel plate backup (~€30) survives fire & water.
    • ✓Test recovery once — on a fresh device.
    DON'T
    • ✗Notes app, Google Drive, iCloud, email, Discord DMs.
    • ✗Photos / screenshots — phone backups leak.
    • ✗Anyone asking you to 'verify' your seed. Anyone. Ever.

    Two-factor authentication (2FA)

    SMS 2FA = SIM-swap risk. Use a TOTP app. We support it natively.

    DO
    • ✓Enable TOTP on /dashboard/security (Google Authenticator, Authy, Aegis).
    • ✓Save the 10 recovery codes offline (paper, sealed envelope).
    • ✓Enable opt-in email backup if you travel.
    DON'T
    • ✗Use SMS as your only second factor.
    • ✗Screenshot the QR code into cloud.
    • ✗Skip 2FA 'until later'. Later is too late.

    Phishing & social engineering

    97% of 2024 crypto losses were human-layer failures. Slow down before you click.

    DO
    • ✓Type lovecoin.life manually. Bookmark it.
    • ✓Verify support handles via /security/bug-bounty disclosure page.
    • ✓Wait 60s before signing any wallet transaction you didn't initiate.
    DON'T
    • ✗Click 'urgent verify your wallet' links. We never send those.
    • ✗Connect your wallet to a site you found in a DM.
    • ✗Share your screen during a 'support' call.
    Pillar 4

    Hardware wallet 101

    For >$500 in crypto, a hardware wallet (Trezor, Ledger, SeedSigner) is the cheapest insurance you'll ever buy.

    DO
    • ✓Buy directly from manufacturer. Never from Amazon resellers or eBay.
    • ✓Set it up offline. Generate seed on the device, never typed.
    • ✓Verify receive address ON the device screen — not on your PC.
    DON'T
    • ✗Buy used. Buy from random shops. Buy 'pre-initialized'.
    • ✗Enter your seed into a website 'to recover'.
    • ✗Skip the firmware update prompt the first time you plug it in.

    Social recovery (Smart Account)

    If you lose your phone, your guardians can help you back in — without ever touching your funds.

    DO
    • ✓Set up 2-of-3 or 3-of-5 guardians on /dashboard/wallet (Smart Account).
    • ✓Pick people who live in different cities, ideally different countries.
    • ✓Tell each guardian what their role is. Don't surprise them.
    DON'T
    • ✗Pick all guardians from one family. Bus-factor = 1.
    • ✗Tell guardians your seed. They only confirm recovery, never hold keys.
    • ✗Skip social recovery because 'I'll remember'. You won't.
    Pillar 6

    Passwords & device hygiene

    Same password on 47 sites = one breach owns you everywhere.

    DO
    • ✓Password manager (Bitwarden, 1Password, KeePass). Unique 16+ char per site.
    • ✓Keep OS + browser auto-updated. Most exploits hit old versions.
    • ✓Set a PIN on your SAFE Wallet (Dashboard → Wallet → Security).
    DON'T
    • ✗Reuse passwords. Save crypto passwords in browser autofill.
    • ✗Install browser extensions you don't 100% recognize.
    • ✗Use public Wi-Fi for wallet operations without a VPN.
